Dream To Achieve Summer Academy

IMG_0853Summer Academy is an immersive program that brings students from Hudson to Bard each summer. These students, entering grades 10 through 12, spend Summer Academy at Bard to get a taste of life as a college student. They sleep in dorms, take four classes each day, have study halls at night, and are able to experience everything the campus has to offer.
Participants  go through intensive workshops focused on college readiness and awareness throughout the week. Many of these are done in partnership with Bard’s Educational Opportunity Program (BEOP), and its incoming freshmen who are on campus at the time. In addition, Summer Academy students also take part in a variety of engaging cultural activities such as trips to an organic farm, collage making, and learning circus arts.
In an exit survey following Summer Academy, students answered the question “As a result of this week, do you feel more motivated to pursue a college education” with an answer of 4.95 on a scale from 1 through 5.
DTA is excited to expand Summer Academy to two weeks this summer, while also making the program available to a small number of students from Kingston. Summer Academy serves as a culmination of the relationship that is built throughout the year between local high schools students and Bard.IMG_1127
